Transformar String Em Real



Salve, programadores JS.

estou com um problema tenho as seguintes strings "1,00" "2,50" "2,00"

quando eu somo

var total;
total = parseFloat("1,00") + parseFloat("2,50") + parseFloat("2,00");

o que retorna esse alert é: 5 e não 5,50 ou seja o parseFloat esta convertendo pra inteiro as strings.

alguém sabe se existe alguma outra função pra converter pra real?
